Walter Lynn Mosley
b. 1960 Hattiesburg, MS
Walter began drawing at an early age and always considered a life
in art. After a year of college in Texas, he left his southern roots
and began his first serious study with portrait artist Bob
Gerbracht in San Jose, California. Later he returned to college,
receiving a BA in Art from San Jose State University. While there,
he had the good fortune to study with Maynard Stewart, who had been
a student of
Frank Vincent Dumond at the Art
Students League of New York. Upon graduation, Walter moved to
New York and began studying at the Art Students League. For 10 years
Walter studied with Frank Mason,
who had also studied with Dumond and succeeded him in his classes
at the League.
Walter has lived in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn, NY since
1989.

"I paint to praise and glorify
God and Jesus and show the beauty of His creation, I thank Him for
the talent and blessings He has bestowed upon me. Without Him I
can do nothing, but with Him, 'all things are possible.' Mathew
19:26.
'Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and
from the Lord Jesus Christ.' " Corinthians 1:3

"I am inspired by the beauty of nature;
painting is an expression of love for that beauty. Painting is a
never-ending, rewarding, fulfilling and joyful experience. The joy
of the creative act comes from being able to “participate”
in the beauty, becoming a channel of the Creator. My goal in painting
is to capture the values and color of the subject I am painting.
One must learn to see as an artist and realize that copying will
not achieve the desired result. When one learns to interpret the
light that exists in nature, the possiblity opens for creating a
harmonious work of art ."
